Signposted mountain bike tour no. 101 The giant in this case is the range of hills of the Kapunerkogel. The Kapuner represents on the one hand the border to Slovenia, but even more the arena for numerous incomparable mountain bike tours in south-western Styria as well as in neighbouring Slovenia.

The Kapunerkogel is certainly not a giant in terms of absolute height. But the effect that the Kapuner has on south-western Styria between Leutschach, Arnfels and Eibiswald is huge. The panoramic tour is particularly suitable for approaching the Kapunerkogel - perhaps as a prelude to your mountain bike holiday - and taking in the sight of it as well as the views from the tour into the Schilcherland. These magnificent panoramas combined with a stop at the Glirsch winery of the Krottmayer family or at the Kiefer fruit farm are in themselves unforgettable highlights of your cycling holiday in Southern Styria. In addition, the crowning second half of the mountain bike tour is a heart lifting flow feeling from Glirsch along the giant Kapuner back down to Feisternitz. From there you can comfortably roll back to the starting point at the church or to the open-air swimming pool in Eibiswald, or add the panorama tour (Eibiswald) with the Garber, Peiserhof and Pichlippi triad.

Directions from Graz / Vienna to Lieboch:

Take the motorway towards Graz (A2) to the Lieboch exit. Continue on the B76 in the direction of Eibiswald.

Directions from Carinthia:

On the motorway in the direction of Klagenfurt (A2) as far as the Lieboch exit. Continue on the B76 in the direction of Eibiswald.

Directions from Leibnitz:

Drive via Arnfels, Oberhaag to Eibiswald.

Directions from Slovenia/Eibiswald:

Drive over the Radlpass on the B76 towards Eibiswald.

There is ample parking near the church square.

Start from the starting point at the church in Eibiswald in an easterly direction and always follow the green signs. The route is well signposted.
From the Perisutti care centre in Eibiswald, the route leads up several, sometimes quite crisp, shorter climbs via Sterglegg and Stammeregg to the old, beautiful Stindlweber farm.
The steeper climbs, known as "stitches" in cycling jargon, are replaced again and again by flatter sections that allow you to enjoy the wonderful views of the Remschnigg, over to the Koralm-Speik and into the Schilcherland. A few benches along the way invite you to take a little more time.
From Stindlweber you walk along the Kapunerkogel for a few hundred metres to Glirsch. Once you reach Glirsch, the difficulties of this route are overcome.
From Glirsch, the route continues with a few very short intermediate climbs, first at the foot of the giant Kapuner and then in a wonderful flow over the Kornriegl and Oberlatein down to Feisternitz.
From Feisternitz you finally roll out to Hörmsdorf, cross the B69 at Gasthof Romantikhof and finish your bike tour along the open-air swimming pool and the Ölspur campsite.

Always drive at a controlled speed and at half visibility, especially on bends, as obstacles can be expected at any time (e.g. road damage, stones, branches, temporarily stored wood, grazing livestock, grazing grids, barriers, tractor-forestry machines, authorised persons' vehicles).
Be considerate of other people, walkers and pedestrians. Only overtake at walking pace!
Be aware of the difficulty of the route, accurately assess your experience and ability as a biker! Protect your head with a helmet and check your equipment (brakes, bell, lights) before every bike tour!
Keep to barriers and please accept that some paths are primarily used for agricultural and forestry purposes!
Be considerate of nature and wildlife, do not leave the marked route, refrain from riding off the open paths and finish your bike tour before dusk.
Please do not leave any litter behind.

*) Mountain biking is a risky sport! The landowners, the Eibiswald cycling club, tourism association and municipalities accept no liability!

Some tours (see description) are "pure nature", the forest paths lead over roots, stones, streams, are partly washed out and are not maintained. Pushing and carrying passages are necessary depending on ability. We recommend private accident insurance or membership of the Alpine Club. Have fun!

The choice of bike is simple. As it is a continuous asphalt route, any mountain bike is suitable. (mountain bike, gravel bike, road bike).

Check your bike after each tour for air pressure, spoke tension and brake pads.

A helmet is a must for every bike tour.

Consider in advance what equipment you need to take with you: warm clothing, rain and wind protection, repair kit and first aid kit belong in your rucksack, as well as a charged mobile phone.
