This tour combines several hiking desires: arrival by train, varied trails, cosy rest areas, information boards on a wide range of topics and a wine tavern during the hike. On a leisurely up-and-down hike, we get to know the municipality of Wildon with its rolling hills, discover large sinkholes in the forest and learn about archaeology, history and cultural history ‘in passing’. Colours that are pleasing to the eye and express the power of nature. A great circular tour from Wildon Castle via Unterhaus to the Buchkogel, on to the Bockmoar wine tavern, from there back via Unterhaus to the church in Wildon and back to the castle.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the Hengsberg exit. Follow the L601 towards Wildon.
No time limit and free of charge around Wildon Castle.

Great round trip from Wildon Castle via Unterhaus to the Buchkogel.Then continue to the Buschenschank Bockmoar, from there again via Unterhaus to the church of Wildon and back to the castle.Along the hiking trail there are some interesting information boards about geology, archeology and history of the region.

Small rucksack with water bottle, light hiking boots, Nordic walking poles, sunscreen, umbrella, mobile phone, detailed map/hiking map of the hike.

Whether it's the former castles on Wildon's Schlossberg hill, the castles of Schwarzenegg, Freibühel, Murstätten, Eybesfeld and Wildon, old town houses and farmhouses, or the parish churches of St. Lorenzen am Hengsberg, St. Magdalena in Wildon and St. Margarethen near Lebring – the four Hengist communities are rich in historical and architectural monuments from the Middle Ages to modern times. Hengsberg was also the seat of the original and mother parish for the entire Kainach Valley. Researching the history of the nobility and clergy, citizens and farmers of Hengist is a central theme of our association's work.
