The Schilcher Trip takes you through picturesque landscapes and historic sites, while you read poems by Hans Kloepfer at various stops along the way. Each stanza of the poem offers a literary interlude, turning the hike into a cultural experience.

The hike begins at the Kloepfer Museum and leads through the upper market square, past the Lerchhaus and the Marian Column. After passing the Raiffeisen Bank, turn left onto a side street and follow the “Red Schilcher Glass” sign and trail marker 590 to Eibiswald Castle. Continue through the castle courtyard to the maintenance yard, where you can read the first stanza of the poem. The route follows the road, keeping to the left, to the Schuiki farm. Here, you’ll reach the second stanza via meadow and forest paths and enjoy a view of the Aibler Kogel with the Schilcher vineyard belonging to winegrower Schwoager. Continue on trail 590, past the Matschnigg Chapel, ascending to the 300-year-old Loibner farmstead, known as Pratter. At the farm chapel, turn right to the transformer, then right and left to the Schwoager winery, where you’ll find the third stanza of the poem and can taste the Schilcher wine. Back at the Pratter Chapel, keep to the right until you reach the fourth stanza, then turn left and hike along forest and meadow paths to the Turmbauerkogel, where you can discover Celtic earthworks and early medieval refuge castles. Enjoy the rewarding view all the way to the Demmerkogel as you read the fifth stanza. The subsequent path downhill leads back down into the valley. After crossing a small bridge, turn right and walk toward the church square, where you’ll find the final stanza of the Schilcher Journey at the Kirchenwirt Hasewend (formerly Gensinger).

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg-Eibiswald.

Ausgangspunkt ist das Kloepfermuseum in der Nähe des Kirchplatzes Richtung Oberer Marktplatz. Von dort wandern Sie über den oberen Markt, vorbei am Lerchhaus und an der Mariensäule. Nach der Raiffeisenbank gehen Sie links in eine Seitenstraße, dem "Roten Schilcherglas" und der Markierung 590 folgend, zum Schloß Eibiswald. Durch den Schlosshof, dann rechts bis zum Bauhof, wo Sie die erste Strophe des Gedichtes lesen können.

Sie wandern der Straße entlang, immer links haltend, bis zum Hof Schuiki, wo Sie auf Wiesen- und Waldwegen zur zweiten Strophe kommen und einen Blick auf den Aibler Kogel haben, wo sich der Schilcherweingarten vom Weinbauern Schwoager befindet.

Dem Weg 590 folgend, an der Matschnigg-Kapelle vorbei, ansteigend bis zum 300 Jahre alten Hof Loibner vlg. Pratter, bei der Hauskapelle rechts bis zum Transformator. Hier rechts, dann links zum Weinbauernhof Schwoager und zur dritten Strophe des Gedichtes. Hier sind Wanderer stets willkommen und Sie können den von Hans Kloepfer beschriebenen Schilcher verkosten. Zurück zur Pratter-Kapelle, rechts haltend bis zur vierten Strophe, hier links über Wald- und Wiesenwege zum Turmbauerkogel (keltische Erdbefestigungen bzw. frühmittelalterliche Fluchtburgen). Bei einem lohnenden Ausblick bis zum Demmerkogel können Sie die fünfte Strophe lesen. Der anschließende Weg abwärts bringt uns wieder zurück ins Tal. Nach einer kleinen Brücke rechts wandern wir Richtung Kirchplatz, wo sich beim Kirchenwirt Hasewend (ehemals Gensinger) die letzte Strophe der Schilcherreise befindet.
