Enjoy the panoramic views around Bad Gams: this hike is characterised by its spectacular vistas across this uniquely beautiful region. Discover life’s simple pleasures as you walk.
Fancy escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life? You’ll love this special hike. Even the starting point in the centre of Bad Gams is something special. Right at the start, you’ll pass the Kirchenwirt Nabernik, where you can fortify yourself with the region’s delicious specialities before setting off. The first highlight of this tour is the Weinbergwarte. Enjoy the view of the nearby Koralpe, stretching as far as neighbouring Slovenia and across the flat Graz plain. You continue your walk to Gamsegg. The next vantage point on this tour awaits you at Hohenfeld. What makes this spot special is the view, on a clear day, all the way to Riegersburg in Eastern Styria. Once you’ve taken the opportunity to snap plenty of photos, Trail 39 leads you on towards Greim.

You return to Bad Gams via the Siggerigraben. At the end of the Siggerigraben, there is, incidentally, an energy spot featuring the Energy Rock and
seating. You will repeatedly pass old farmhouses adorned with magnificent flowers – a characteristic feature of this region.

From Graz, continue on the A2 towards Klagenfurt and take the Lieboch exit towards Stainz/Deutschlandsberg/Eibiswald. Follow the B76 to Deutschlandsberg. In Stainz, leave the B76 at the JET petrol station; take the first exit off the roundabout and turn left at the junction towards Bad Gams.
Near the Bad Gams sports ground.
After starting in the centre of Bad Gams, follow trail marker 39. In the spa park you have the opportunity to get a hiking map of the region, in which all the important stations of this hike are described. With the help of a QR code, you can also download it to your smartphone.

Soon you will reach the striking wooden tower, the Weinbergwarte, with its fantastic view. At the top, you can leave everyday life behind for good and just let your mind wander. Here you can see the wonderful contrasts that make Western Styria so unique.

The hiking trail leads you further to Gamsegg, where you will find well-chilled drinks in a fountain at the crossroads of the Weinbergweg and Panoramaweg trails. For a small donation, you can refresh yourself and recharge your batteries.

Well fortified and in a good mood, you continue along the Hohenfeld. As the name suggests, it is a leisurely section of the tour and you have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view over the Schilcherland. In every season, this special region has its own charm. But when the vine blossoms in spring or the Schilcher grapevines shine in colourful hues in autumn, you know you have chosen the right season for your tour.

After about 650 metres, the trail continues in the forest, which provides the necessary cooling, especially on hot summer days. The next two kilometres on your hike take you past typical farmhouses with their beautiful balcony flowers, which make a great photo motif.

Via Greim and the Siggerigraben you hike back to Bad Gams. Take the opportunity to stop at one of the typical wine taverns (Buschenschank) to chat about the wonderful hike over a glass of Schilcher and a hearty snack.

The unique experiences on this day will remind you of this excursion many times and make you want to return soon.

Small rucksack with water bottle, light hiking boots, Nordic walking poles, sunscreen, umbrella, mobile phone, detailed map/hiking map of the hike.
