A true mountain adventure for hikers who enjoy a bit of a challenge.

Starting from the Bärental parking lot (alternative: the Grünanger parking lot), Trail No. 20 leads you gently to the Bärentalhütte and then steeply uphill to the state border. The route continues along the North-South Long-Distance Hiking Trail 505 to the Hühnerstütze and the Großer Speikkogel (No. 579). Once you’ve reached the Speikkogel, enjoy the fantastic view and the peace and quiet of the mountain after your climb. The return route takes you via the Steinmandl (No. 579). Soon, the first cairns come into view. From here, the trail descends to the Grünangerhütte, which is open almost year-round. Then, follow Trail No. 20 on the valley side back to the starting point.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 toward Klagenfurt at the Graz-West interchange.
Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 toward Lannach-Deutschlandsberg, continuing on to Trahütten and Weinebene.

One of the highlights is reaching the highest peak of the Koralpe, the Großer Speikkogel at 2,140 meters.

Many starting points for our hikes in southern Styria can also be reached by public transport.

For a relaxed and sustainable journey, we recommend travelling by bus and train wherever possible. Depending on the region, additional local transport options are available.

This allows you to start your tour stress-free while also contributing to climate and nature conservation.
