This walk takes us on a journey through time, a highlight for culture and history buffs who want to explore the region's diverse past.
The hike begins at the Renaissance castle in Gleinstätten and leads along the Sulmtal Cycle Route R1 through picturesque fields to Mantrach. Passing the Kremsner oil mill and Ottersbach Castle, we reach the prehistoric settlement hill, the Burgstallkogel. Here we can sense the echoes of the past, traces of a hilltop settlement, iron mining and early medieval castles. The ascent to Georgenberg, where the Romanesque-Gothic St. George's Church with its Baroque interior is located, rewards us with a beautiful view. Filled with the secrets this tour has to offer, we return to Gleinstätten Castle via the municipal paths of Praratheregg and Prarath.
The route can also be shortened via variants 18a or 18b.
