Follow in the footsteps of the glass industry in the market town of Wies, in the south of the Schilcherland region. The trail takes you past many historic sites, chapels and beautiful viewpoints.

From 1865 to 1922, the Alte Bockhaus served as an inn and warehouse, as well as a vocational school belonging to the glassworks. Today, there is an information board on the site. Opposite the old manor house stood the glassworks’ fire station. At the former mine, known as the Barbarawerk, coking coal was mined from 1940 to 1950.
The walk begins at the market square in Wies and heads towards Oberer Markt. After crossing the railway crossing, the route continues to the old glassworks. The path then leads towards Wernersdorf until you reach a crossroads. From there, follow the Emmausweg to Vordersdorf. The route continues along Kohlenstraße until you take a sharp left and walk through the woods until you reach the B76 main road. Follow the pavement, cross the B76 and take Kapellenweg to St. Veit Chapel.
Finally, the walk leads back to the starting point along the country road.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg-Bad Schwanberg-Hollenegg-Wies.

Am Marktplatz Wies (Wegpunkt 1) beginnt die Wanderung Richtung Oberer Markt.Die Bahnübersetzung überqueren und weiter bis zur alten Glasfabrik (Schautafeln) (Wegpunkt 2), dann den Sulmweg entlang, vorbei beimTennisplatz/Sportplatz, dann rechts auf die Sulmstraße bis zur kleinen Kapelle (Lagerhaus), vor der Apotheke links abbiegen. Beim Gasthaus Leitinger die Bundesstraße B76 überqueren, den Gehsteig entlang Richtung Wernersdorf, nach ca. 150 m rechts abbiegen (Sonnenhang), bei der Straßengabelung gerade aus,dann wieder rechts in den Wald (leicht ansteigend), weiter bis man zu einem Wegkreuz kommt – links auf der Gemeindestraße entlang– vorbei an der Groß und Pölzlkapelle bis zum Weingut Müller vlg.Kraßhoisl (Schauraum und Weinverkostung)(Wegpunkt 3).Gegenüber dem Weingut geht es links hinunter in die sogenannte „Ehrensimmer Tiaf“ am Schilcherweinbau Lipp, an Holunder- und Schilcheranlagen vorbei bis zur Landesstraße L652, die Straße überqueren, rechts abbiegen und nach 200 m wieder rechts zum Biotop abbiegen (Wegpunkt 4). Dann auf dem Emmausweg nach Vordersdorf –Einkehrmöglichkeit rechts Gasthaus Polz, links Gasthaus Haring. An der Dorfkapelle (Wegpunkt 5) vorbei (Gasthaus Haring bis zur Gabelung (Kreuz), dann rechts halten auf die Glashüttenstraße, vorbei am Spielplatz, Tennisplatz und dem alten „Bockhaus“ (Wegpunkt 6). In diesem Haus war von 1865-1922 ein Gasthaus, Warenlager sowie eine Werksschule, die zur Glasfabrik gehörte, untergebracht(Schautafel). Am alten Herrenhaus vorbei – gegenüber befand sich das Löschhaus der Glasfabrik - bei der Wegkreuzung geradeaus auf die Kohlenstraße, beim ehemaligen Bergwerg, das sogenannte„Barbarawerk“ (Kohlenabbau von 1940 bis 1950) (Wegpunkt 7), vorbei. Weiter auf der Kohlenstraße bis man scharf links abbiegt, durchden Wald bis man die Bundesstraße B76 erreicht. Den Gehsteigentlang, die B76 überqueren und auf dem Kapellenweg zur St. Veit-Kapelle (Wegpunkt 8) auf der Landesstraße zum Ausgangspunkt zurück.
