This loop trail is dedicated to the legend of Emmaus wine and connects the Emmaus vineyards of Wernersdorf. It winds through the beautiful countryside and offers numerous places to stop for a break. Along the way, hikers will also learn many interesting facts about Schilcher wine.
The Emmaus Trail in Wies begins at the parish and pilgrimage church of the “Scourged Savior on the Meadow.” From there, the trail leads along Altenmarkter Straße, then via Kapellenstraße to the St. Veit Chapel in Altenmarkt. It continues along Kapellenstraße, crosses the state highway, and then heads toward Patschweg. The trail winds through fields and meadows and eventually enters the forest. Shortly thereafter, you reach the “Zur schmerzhaften Mutter” Chapel in Vordersdorf. The trail continues through the forest, where it crosses the Vordersdorf Stream. Over a hill, you reach the Nahat Chapel in Pörbach. From there, you already have a beautiful view of Wernersdorf and reach the Emmaus Chapel in about half an hour. This chapel houses 14 works by the artist Gerald Brettschuh. The Emmaus Trail leads through a scenic area with flat to gently ascending terrain, mainly along forest and meadow paths. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views as well as interesting stops along the way, such as the Emmaus Chapel in Wernersdorf.
