The Altenbachklamm gorge is a true natural gem with beautiful natural scenery that offers a glimpse into the diverse vegetation of the gorge.

The Altenbachklamm gorge hike begins at the Stelzl vlg. Altenbacher wine tavern. Although the forest path is pleasant at first, you will soon pass the first bridge and from there on it is steadily uphill. The gorge hike leads over numerous small bridges, footbridges, and ladders to an impressive suspension bridge. The combination of untouched natural landscape, adventure, and exercise makes a hike through the Altenbachklamm gorge a truly unforgettable experience. And, as is so often the case, the effort of the climb is rewarded. First with a breathtaking view of the beautiful wine country and, as is to be expected in the adventure region of Southern Styria, with a delicious, hearty snack and a well-deserved glass of wine at the Panoramaschenke Tertinek. The return journey is a leisurely stroll along a road with very little traffic. As a bonus, you can continue to enjoy the fantastic view.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the Leibnitz exit. Follow the B79 to Heimschuh-Großklein-Oberhaag.

Wald- und Wiesen Weg, Klammweg

Startpunkt der Rundwanderung ist der Buschenschank Stelzl vgl. Altenbacher. Von hier aus steigt man direkt in den Klammweg ein. Insgesamt werden beinahe 400 Höhenmeter auf der 2,3 km langen Strecke zum Klammausstieg bei der Panoramaschenke Tertinek vgl. Mukonig bewältigt. Nach und nach steigt man über immer gefinkeltere Stege und Leitern stetig weiter auf. Nach der 13. Brücke (ca. 1,1 km nach dem Einstieg) gibt es die erste Ausstiegsmöglichkeit aus der Klamm, welche zurück zum Buschenschank Stelzl vgl. Altenbacher führt.

Ein besonderes Highlight – nicht nur für Kinder – ist die Hängebrücke mit einer Länge von 30 m, die in 6m Höhe eine Querung ermöglicht. Am Ende dieser steht die Klammhütte, mit fließend Wasser und WC. Wandert man nun weiter bietet sich ca. 1,7 km nach dem Einstieg eine weitere Möglichkeit die Klamm in Richtung Ausgangspunkt zu verlassen. Alle anderen, die so wie wir noch „hoch hinaus“ wollen, folgen dem Weg weiter in Richtung Klammsteig. Spätestens ab hier wird dann gutes Schuhwerk benötigt, um auf den steilen und teilweise schmalen Aufstiegshilfen nicht den Halt zu verlieren.

Der etwas anstrengende Aufstieg beim allerletzen Stück der Altenbachklamm lohnt sich aber auf alle Fälle. Oben angekommen wird man erstens mit einer wunderbaren Aussicht belohnt, zweitens befindet sich hier die Panoramaschenke Tertinek vgl. Mukonig . Und der Panoramablick (bei klarer Sicht bis zum Hochschwab) lässt sich ebenso gut genießen wie ein Glas Most. Der Abstieg des Rundwanderwegs führt entlang der wenig befahrenen Straße zurück zum Ausgangspunkt.
