The picture-perfect landscape, with its tall lime trees, sweet chestnuts and wooden windmills, adds charm to the rolling countryside. Add to that some sparkling wine and delicious local cuisine – a temptation that hardly anyone can resist.

A touch of culture to top it all off – a well-rounded experience for all connoisseurs and nature lovers. Eibiswald is well known to all hikers and members of the Alpine Club as a long-distance hiking destination. But we also know just how lovely it is to wander from farm to farm amongst the vineyards on gentle hills, enjoying magnificent panoramic views. The picture-perfect landscape, with tall lime trees, sweet chestnuts and wooden windmills, adds character to the rolling countryside. Add to that sparkling wine and delicious local cuisine – a temptation that hardly anyone can resist. If you wish to take the shortcut through the “Stille Tal”, you must return to the “Oranges Glas” signpost heading towards Eibiswald on the North-South Long-Distance Trail, founded by Carl Hermann of Eibiswald. On the descent, you can share the long-distance walkers’ sense of finally having reached their destination.
Passing the Knotz nursery, the long-distance hiking marker and the Kreuzkirche, you’ll walk back to Kloepfermarkt.

Coming from Graz via the A9, take the A2 towards Klagenfurt at the Graz-West motorway junction. Take the Lieboch exit and follow the B76 towards Lannach-Deutschlandsberg-Bad Schwanberg-Steyeregg-Wies-Eibiswald.

Ab dem Kirchplatz am Pfarrhof vorbei, der "Orangen Schilcherglas"-Markierung folgend, über die Brücke, wo Sie auf die Saggau mit ihrer Fischleiter blicken. Nach dem Überqueren der Bundesstraße links zur Hauptschule wo Sie noch das Verwaltungsgebäude des ehemaligen Stahlwerks erkennen können, in dem um 1870 über 600 Leute beschäftigt waren. Nun wandern Sie am Mariazellerweg (Nr. 506) zum herrschaftlichen Hof Aichberger, von dem Sie einen herrlichen Blick auf Eibiswald haben. Über Wald und Wiesenwegen zum Hof Hohl mit Hochlandrindern und weiter zum Gasthof Safran-Filatsch.

Ab hier können Sie sich nun für die Variante kurz durch das "Stille Tal" oder die Variante lang über den Buschenschank Jöbstl und Stammeregg entscheiden.

Variante kurz:

Wenn Sie die Abkürzung durch das "Stille Tal" nehmen wollen, dann müssen Sie zurück zur Markierung "Oranges Glas" Richtung Eibiswald auf dem Nordsüd-Weitwanderweg, den der Eibiswalder Carl Hermann begründete.

Beim Abstieg können Sie das Gefühl der Weitwanderer, endlich am Ziel zu sein, nachvollziehen. Vorbei an der Gärtnerei Knotz, dem Weitwanderstein und der Kreuzkirche wandern Sie zurück in den Kloepfermarkt.

Visit the ÖAV Long-Distance Hiking Museum in the courtyard of the Lerchhaus in Eibiswald. Here you can gain an insight into the life of Carl Hermann (founder of long-distance hiking) and the history of long-distance hiking.

Many starting points for our hikes in southern Styria can also be reached by public transport.

For a relaxed and sustainable journey, we recommend travelling by bus and train wherever possible. Depending on the region, additional local transport options are available.
