Marie-Theres Härtel and her highly qualified, internationally composed Dachstein Band take us on an unusual musical journey around the Dachstein. The landscape, the people, and life in the mountains provide the material for a contemporary sound work full of surprising twists. Sometimes rough and wild, sometimes calm and peaceful, the music tells of the power of nature, of dangers, and of the peace of the alpine pastures.

The composition with its 8 movements (Dachstein Overture, Dohlen fliagn, Glacier Ice, Over the Dachstein, Great-Grandfather, Aufi, Mountain Souls, and Alpine Summer) brings to life all that we associate with mountains, nature, danger, and alpine peace. Härtel's fellow musicians, all rooted in jazz and passionate mountain climbers, give the various musical dialects of the Dachstein region their respective, yet completely new sound. Completely free, detached from forms of jazz or classical chamber music, they occasionally dive into the folk musical background of the composer. In a rare ensemble, distributed among few musicians, a contemporary, entirely present music has emerged in an exceptionally multifaceted instrumentation – "a chamber music alpine symphony."
