Marie-Theres Härtel und die Dachsteinband

Marie-Theres Härtel grew up as a musician’s child next to the dance floor and thus absorbed alpine folk music. As one of the pioneers of “New Folk Music”, she frequently combines traditional elements with jazz and international musical dialects. With the composition Dachsteinklang, created as part of the multi-year La Strada project “Signal from Dachstein”, she establishes a connection between these musical dialects, towns, and valleys of the Dachstein region. In doing so, she musically creates a universal language that is understood far beyond the borders of the region and the entire country, touching deeply.
Marie-Theres Härtel spent three years writing this composition, which aims to bring to life all that we associate with mountains, nature, danger, and the peace of alpine pastures. Her fellow musicians are all passionate mountaineers as well, giving the various musical dialects of the Dachstein region their own unique and entirely new sound. Completely free and unbound by forms of jazz or classical chamber music, they immerse themselves for moments in the folk musical background of the composer. The composition connects traditional alpine sounds with modern, multifaceted elements. In addition to classical instruments (such as violin, viola, bass, and saxophone), ancient shawm flutes and horns are also used.
