Kunstnachmittag im Atelier im Schwimmbad

After four weeks of working in the studio at the swimming pool, guest artist Bernadette Laimbauer provides insight into the works created and the time spent on site at the end of her residency. Over a cup of coffee, the audience will reflect on art, being an artist, and creating art in Wies.

Bernadette Laimbauer combines elements of performance and visual arts in her performances. What unites her performances is the spontaneous reaction in the moment. Improvisation and intuition play a significant role, as well as breaking the fourth wall and opening up to the audience.

"My performances take place in various contexts – on stages as well as in exhibition spaces, hotel rooms, cars, tents, or in public spaces. Intimate rituals, live compositions, performative sculptures emerge there – in connection with carefully chosen objects, spoken text, and sung voice. In terms of content, I process observations from my personal environment that trigger an intrinsic motivation in me to understand them. The choice of performance as a medium follows my desire to create no rigid, closed works, but fluid formats that evolve with each performance. Each performance is unique, each a new experience – a process of learning and changing." - Bernadette Laimbauer

Before Bernadette Laimbauer implemented her own performative concepts, she worked in monument preservation, took acting and dance lessons, and then participated in theater projects. She studied art history, cultural studies, and completed her studies in Fine Arts/Experimental Design at the University of Art in Linz with the performance "Build me a house where I can stay" in 2022. Her performances have been seen throughout Austria and at performance festivals in Istanbul, Skopje, Bergen, Oslo, Leeds, and Bristol. Bernadette Laimbauer currently lives in Graz and teaches at the University of Art in Linz.

Following "At the Edge of the Pool with Bernadette Laimbauer," the opening of the exhibition of painter Mona März will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the gallery at the parish center.
