Galerie Marenzi: Studio Asynchrome

An ECHO is never completely identical to its origin.
The ancient tale of Echo and Narcissus already connects voice, reflection, and desire with the question of what returns from another – and what is lost in the process.
What remains of an image, a system, a body, when its context changes? What do we see – and what remains outside our field of vision?

In the exhibition, works from different phases of studio ASYNCHROME relate to each other. Analog drawings, installations, and image worlds encounter one another in new contexts. Information is condensed, removed from its original contexts, and transformed into new ones. The conscious selection becomes a principle – similar to photography – deciding what becomes visible and what remains concealed from view.

ECHO moves between resonance and reflection and simultaneously refers to a present in which perception is no longer solely determined by humans but emerges in the interplay of images, technologies, and material structures.
studio ASYNCHROME is a transdisciplinary experiment founded in 2013 by Marleen Leitner and Michael Schitnig. In drawing, painting, installation, animation, and digital image worlds, the duo explores urban spaces and societal systems. The works combine analog and digital processes, often in fragmentary form, and develop their own visual narratives between research, imagination, and reflection. Exhibitions have taken them to the Expo 2025 Osaka, Expo 2020 Dubai, the Austrian Cultural Forum Tokyo and Austrian Cultural Forum New York, the Ex Elettrofonica Gallery in Rome, the National Museum Oslo, the Beijing Design Week, the Mark Rothko in Daugavpils, the National Gallery of Fine Arts Amman, as well as the Architecture Center Vienna, Bildraum - Studio Vienna, Vienna Biennale, steirischer herbst, Greith Haus, Galerie Sommer, BRUSEUM / New Gallery Graz, and Kunsthaus Graz.
For their work, studio ASYNCHROME has received multiple awards.
