Galerie Marenzi: Ola Eibl: "Crossover"
Ola Eibl was born in 1981 in West Berlin and studied at the University of the Arts Berlin – Faculty of Fine Arts with Prof. H.-J. Diehl, Prof. V. Stelzmann, and Prof. H.-J. Kristahn. She also completed a degree at the Accademia di belle Arti Brera Milan, Italy, and at the Universidade Belas Artes Sao Paolo, Brazil. Since 2009, the artist has been working in her studio in Berlin-Neukölln and since 2022 also in the studio in Lang in Leibnitz.
"I have been working alternately and building on several work cycles since 2005. After 20 years, a kind of crossover emerges that gradually extracts my search and handwriting. The four main cycles are called: Hiatus, Vagant, Codex Cornice & Vigor. Since I constantly polarize myself, both stylistically and in the choice and variation of materials, extremely different works arise at first glance. I navigate through the wide spectrum of media: painting, graphics, printmaking, sculpture/plastic, collage, and photography."
Photography has often served me as a means to an end – sketching, quoting, receptive, documentary, compositional, and as a study in every respect. I use it when space, object, and subject are not available in real form.
For the exhibition, I will present a new cycle crossover work as a photography ensemble in selected historic or unusual photo frames. These have been collected especially for the cycle Codex Cornice over ten years. Indirectly, this new work will be the key to the exhibition. A black and white photo series with partial hand coloring that unites all cycles of my previous artistic work. Photographs (digital, analog) from my ideas archive will be incorporated, with more searched for, staged, or simply found throughout the year.
