Galerie Marenzi: Franz Dampfhofer
Documentation and Imagination
“The cycles, “Transformation of a Landscape”, “Zigöllerkogel” and “Father and Son”, which developed over a longer period and were recently completed, are documents of a change. These works are conceived as drawing, tempera painting, watercolor, photo collages, and scriptural on paper, and deal with a theme that I would also like to call memories and metamorphoses.”
Franz Dampfhofer masterfully presents works that focus on the West Styria coal district, the metamorphosis of a settlement and living space around the “Zigöller”, and the personal archaeology of his childhood. An exciting insight into a life’s work that is full of stories, visions, and dreams, a look into intertwined inner and outer views.
This exhibition is complemented by small-format graphic works that enrich the above-mentioned cycles. Large-format ink drawings partly repeat individual themes.
