The painter Mona März paints abstractly and intuitively, and her works sometimes appear dark. The artist engages with both abstract and representational oil painting in various formats. She focuses on the painting process, often making the interaction between medium and substrate visible. How the canvas reacts to the paint becomes part of the artwork as much as the subject itself, allowing the painting process to become part of the narrative.
The exhibition is held in cooperation with the parish of Wies.
Biography:
Mona März was born in 1995 in Graz. In 2022, she completed the masterclass in painting at the Ortweinschool for Art and Design. Since then, she has been working as a freelance artist. In 2022, she received the Ortwein Scholarship from the State of Styria.
"The first application of color does not settle. The painting emerges through the decision that must be made repeatedly: What has a place here? Through many layers, the shapes that want to stay fight their way through. In the end, it seems clear why they were the ones that remained here."
