Ausstellung "Verborgene Schätze der Natur - Mineralien und Kristalle
Extensive collections on regional archaeology and glass production on the Koralm, an exciting tour through the castle with a cistern system and a new mineral exhibition.
Collecting minerals – a passion and fascination that captivates many people. This includes four personalities from West Styria, whose mineral collections are considered their life’s work, assembled with much diligence and meticulousness and carefully registered. Self-collected finds as highlights of the collector's life, but also minerals acquired at fairs and exchanged with colleagues, culminated in the often thousands of pieces that comprise their private collections.
The new exhibition at the Burgmuseum ArcheoNorico presents a fine selection from the four West Styrian collections, starting with sparkling crystals and minerals from the surrounding mountain region, namely the crystalline formations of the Koralm and Stubalm, the Paleozoic from Remschnigg, or the volcanic area of Southeast Styria. A geological period that covers an almost unimaginable 500 to 2.5 million years in a very confined space!
Through Upper Styria, with the coveted iron blossoms from Eisenerz, the exhibition finally leads to mineral treasures from Carinthia, for example from Hüttenberg or Bad Bleiberg.
The supra-regional character of the exhibition is expressed with minerals from Austria, from many European countries, as well as exhibits from around the world, from Africa to India and the Ural.
Open until October 31, 2026!
Wed to Sun and on holidays, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (last admission: 4:30 p.m.)
