Oil painting of a formative artist personality

Walter Sabetzer is one of the defining artistic personalities of the district.

In addition to his work as an artist, Walter Sabetzer worked for many years as a professor of art and crafts education in Graz and Deutschlandsberg.

For the first time in a long while, his works are once again on display in Deutschlandsberg. The focus is on micro-motives from nature, which open up new perspectives in an unusual, abstracted viewpoint. After Walter Sabetzer's education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Prof. Josef Mikl and Prof. Wolfgang Hollegha, he developed an independent artistic style.

Already during his studies, he received multiple awards and participated in renowned exhibitions. Study trips through various European countries, as well as an artistic dialogue with Aborigines in Western Australia, had a lasting impact on his work. Today he lives and works in St. Peter im Sulmtal and in Vienna.

In collaboration with his daughter, fashion designer Marlen Sabetzer, fabrics printed with designs of his works were created. The resulting models are also part of the exhibition.
