Weingut Gründl - Labuttendorf
St. Veit in der Südsteiermark
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We concentrate on the essentials, namely on taste. Quality before quantity is not just something we say, it is our philosophy. Mercilessly self-critical and honest with himself, Stefan Gründl pursues his clearly defined goals. His passion is quite simply explained: to make very good wines. The variety is in the foreground, each wine should stand for itself, have its own character and be allowed to develop. In the process, each Gründl wine is given enough time to develop.
OUR LOCATION
The special thing about the Gründl winery is that the sales department, cellar and Buschenschank are in Labuttendorf, but the steep vineyards are in Ratsch an der Weinstraße, 17km away. Fortunately, the previous generations, the Payer family, already recognized the potential of this pure south-facing site, acquired the property and successively expanded it. The mixed agricultural business has evolved into today's winery.
OUR VINEYARDS
On our 7 hectares of vineyards in Ratsch you can find multilayered soil types. There are sand, loam, pure opok, as well as lime. Here it is necessary to choose the right variety for the right soil type. The Stermetzberg is a pure south-facing site. We always work in harmony with nature and try to work in this rhythm. Only when our vines are doing well, are optimally supplied and cared for, and are growing in the right place, can a great wine be made from them.
