Silberbergwarte
Leibnitz
The history of the lookout is closely connected to the Silberberg wine school. It was built in 1871 in honor of Friedrich Freiherr von Froon to Kirchrath by the previous owners of the Silberberg vineyard, located at 412m above sea level and is the smallest lookout in the region at only 3 meters.
In 1995, as part of the 100th anniversary of the wine school, a 2.2 x 2.7 m metal platform was added to the 1x 2.5 m tower by wine students. The platform is supported by four slender steel columns. It can be accessed via ten original stone steps and three newer metal steps. The railing is made from rails of the Sulmtalbahn, which was discontinued in the 1960s.
However, the view is limited: Seggau Castle, the pilgrimage church on Frauenberg, and a view down over the vineyards to Lake Sulm.
The "Blickwechsel Tour" combines cycling and hiking and leads to impressive lookout towers with spectacular panoramic views.
