Kreuzkogelwarte
Leibnitz
The Kreuzkogel Observatory near Leibnitz offers an impressive panoramic view – from Hochschwab and Schöckl to Koralpe, Pohorje, and the Steiner Alps.
Right by the restaurant Kogel 3 begins the easy, short walking path to the Kreuzkogelwarte at an elevation of 498 meters above sea level. A gloriette built of masonry between 1847 and 1849 and inaugurated in 1850 was renovated in the 1950s and raised by two meters, destroyed by a lightning strike in 1963 and then rebuilt. In 1988/89, a wooden tower was added to the structure. 43 steps lead indoors to the platform at a height of 9 meters, making the total height of the building 13.3 meters.
A hiking trail leads down through the forest at the back and passes by the Silberberger observation tower down to the Silberberg wine school.
The “Blickwechsel-Tour” combines cycling and hiking and leads to impressive observation towers with spectacular panoramic views.
