The Hotrocks Climbing Garden in Bad Gams offers a diverse and well-secured climbing experience in a picturesque setting. With a total of 31 routes and two practice via ferratas, this climbing area is an attractive destination for both beginners and advanced climbers.

The routes cover a wide range of difficulty levels, from 3 to 8+, ensuring that both newcomers and experienced climbers get their money’s worth. One of the most challenging routes, “Max sei Tour”, features a brutal move in the overhang and is a true highlight for ambitious sport climbers.

Character of the Climbing Area

The area is characterized by fine-edged crimp climbing on plate gneiss, also known as Stainzer Hartgneis. This type of rock, which is quarried in the region as Stainzerplatte, requires some getting used to but offers a unique climbing experience. All routes are labeled on the rock, making orientation easy.

The climbing garden is very well secured, ensuring a safe climbing experience. Most routes require up to 12 quickdraws. Thanks to the comprehensive safety measures, the area is also suitable for children, making the Hotrocks Climbing Garden a family-friendly destination.

The walls are oriented towards the southeast, providing pleasant climbing conditions, especially in the morning. Due to this orientation, the climbing area is also well-suited for use in the colder months.

Arrival via Bad Gams:

• Coming from Deutschlandsberg, turn left before the church.
• Coming from Stainz, turn right after the church.
• Then follow the wooden signs with the symbol of a climber in the direction of Greimbauer.

The approach to the wall begins at the Greimbauer parking lot. From there, the path leads across a meadow and then along a marked trail through the forest. After about 10 minutes of walking, the trail ends directly at the climbing wall.
