The castle of the "Lonspercher" is not without reason a special landmark of Deutschlandsberg. The dreamy view that one enjoys from this medieval castle is already worth a visit by itself.
Especially worth seeing is also the castle museum Archeo Norico, housed in the Gothic keep and the adjacent former residential and representative buildings of the castle Deutschlandsberg.
On a foothill of the Koralpe, which transitions into the Laßnitztal and the western Styrian foothills, the castle of Deutschlandsberg rises excellently protected due to its natural location on a rocky terrain spur.
Evidences for an early settlement of over 6500 years in the later castle area are provided by archaeological finds from the Copper Age/New Stone Age. Originally, the castle served as the administrative center for large land holdings in the region, which were under the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The first documented mention of Friedrich von Lonsperg as burgrave dates back to the year 1153. Large-scale renovations and expansions of the castle date from the Gothic period, such as the mighty keep built around the year 1300 with its auxiliary buildings. The Renaissance, specifically the late 16th and early 17th centuries, includes the current hotel wing (Kuenburgtrakt) as well as the knight's hall (Burgrestaurant).
The medieval core castle houses the castle museum Archeo Norico with varied exhibitions as well as the keep with an observation platform.
