Join the autumn celebrations

Autumn gets lively at the wine festivals in South Styria — and we’re not talking about the weather. That often shows its best side well into the end of the year. But when the freshly pressed grape juice, known as Sturm, begins to ferment and fill the glasses, you know the season has truly begun. And wherever there’s Sturm, roasted chestnuts are never far away.

From mid-September to late October — depending on the timing of the grape harvest — the sweet, lightly fermented Sturm makes its seasonal return, inviting everyone to savor the flavors of freshly harvested grapes. Around these two local specialties, many wineries and farms host special events as part of harvest celebrations, Thanksgiving festivals, and traditional courtyard festivities.
