Hiking at Salzstiegl
For many centuries, the Salzstiegl on the Stubalpe was an important route for transporting salt from the Salzkammergut to Steiermark. The many historic huts still in operation today bear witness to the former significance of this mountain pass.
Today, the Salzstiegl attracts visitors with a unique hiking paradise and a wide range of opportunities to experience nature at its finest. From leisurely alpine walks along the North-South Long-Distance Trail 505 to challenging summit tours to the Rappoldkogel or Speikkogel – every nature lover will find the right adventure here.
A special highlight is the well-known From Glacier to Wine hiking route, which passes directly through the Salzstiegl. As a stage along the southern route of this impressive trail, the Salzstiegl offers hikers the perfect place to take a well-earned break amid breathtaking mountain scenery and fully enjoy the beauty of the region.

To the west, the trail continues along the Koralm Crystal Trail.
