Water sports in Graz Region

Graz Region is a paradise for water lovers. Whether you prefer splashing about with your kids, soaking up the sun or relaxing at the spa: All of it and more is possible at the many public pools and spas of the region.

Plus, the city of Graz and the surrounding region are great choices for all those who love water sports.

Swimming

Granted: There's nothing like a white palm beach. But Graz Region knows how to refresh in summer with cool waters and beach flair.

In addition to numerous swimming pools with sports pools and diving towers, indoor pools also ensure physical fitness in cooler temperatures. Water slides and adventure pools are a must for family fun.

Sailing

Sailing lessons can be booked at the sailing schools at Lake Schwarzlsee, Piberstein or Packer reservoir. Offers range from basic courses to category A license courses for inland waterways and yachting permit courses. 

Waterskiing & wakeboarding

At Lake Schwarzlsee you can find everything you need for these two popular sports, ranging from rental equipment to obstacles and lifts.

Diving

The dive schools at Lake Schwarzlsee and Lake Piberstein See / Maria Lankowitz offer different types of diving courses as well as the necessary rental equipment. 

Kayaking & canoeing

Picturesque Hirzmann reservoir is not just popular with stand-up paddle boarders but also with kayakers and canoeists. And that’s no surprise given the amazing nature surrounding the lake! Kayaks and canoes can be rented on site, and there are also special courses.

Paddling through Graz, past the Mur Island and the Kunsthaus? Why not, the Mur is just the thing. Start in Auwiesen on the southern city border, where the companies TOASTED THERMIC and SUPXPERIENCE offer courses and all kinds of paddling equipment. And if you want something really special, we recommend pleasure rafting on the Mur.

Stand-up paddle boarding

Glide across the water and see things from a different perspective: Stand-up paddle boarding in the region of Graz is a one-of-a-kind experience.

The region’s lakes offer plenty of space to hop on your board. If you don’t own a board, you can rent one at Lake Schwarzlsee, Copacabana, Hirzmann reservoir or state-of-the-art Tieber Recreation Centre in Frohnleiten. SUP courses can be booked with Subexperience in Graz. 

Fishing

Fishing is a perfect activity to unwind. It’s almost meditative and certainly a wonderful outdoor experience. In addition to patience, you need a fishing licence, a rod and baits. If you have all of the above, you can cast your line at Lake Schwarzlsee, Packer reservoir, Hirzmann reservoir or at the Hubertus lakes in Gratwein-Straßengel.
