From the idyllically situated village of St. Peter am Kammersberg, this stage of the hiking route "From Glacier to Wine" leads us first down to the end of the trail from the previous day. After crossing the Katschbach stream, we follow - for the whole day - the long-distance hiking trail 09, the Salzsteig trail. Via the Pogerhütte and the Stolzenhütte we reach the summit of the Stolzalpe after about 1,000 meters of ascent. The descent begins steeply again, but then becomes pleasant and leads to the village of Stolzalpe with the hospital specializing in orthopedics. If there are any orientation problems here in the village, we go down from the upper hospital complex past the church to the lower hospital complex. From its parking lot, head west until a path branches off to the left that takes us to the Käferhube Inn. On its terrace we can enjoy a magnificent view of Murau and into the Mur valley. Note: there is also a shortcut directly to Murau, bypassing the Käferhube inn.
The further path leads downhill on the left to a road, which we follow again to the left, although a signpost also wants to lead us to the right via the Käferweg to Murau. At the road we soon reach, we keep to the right to branch off at the Rahmhube bus stop onto a forest path that takes us directly to Murau.
Arriving in the small town of Murau, we cross the road and walk straight down towards the center, passing schools and the beautiful St. Anna church, until we finally turn right and enter the historic center of Murau with its beautiful main square. Another tip: For 120 years, the Murtalbahn has connected the district of Murau with the Salzburg district of Lungau. The 65-kilometer-long narrow-gauge line with a gauge of 760 mm runs from Unzmarkt to Tamswegentlang the upper reaches of the Mur. In addition to scheduled passenger service with modern railcars and diesel locomotives, steam trains also operate as part of nostalgia trips. These have long since become an insider's tip for all railroad enthusiasts and romantics. Snorting, steaming and huffing, the steam locomotives with their cozy old wagons meander along the picturesque mountain scenery and the beautiful Mura River. History also accompanies us on the next stage, as our destination is St. Lambrecht with its impressive monastery.
