BergZeitReise Tagestourentipp - Roseggers Waldheimat

Open
A short or longer (depending on route choice) round trip, ideal for families. In winter partly not cleared, therefore take sturdy shoes! For children, especially in snow, a wonderful experience in the heart of Peter Rosegger's forest home and also in the heart of Hochsteiermark.
The Kluppeneggerhof, the birthplace of the writer Peter Rosegger, who is known far beyond our region, has been a popular destination for pleasure hikers in the summer months for many decades and a well-known excursion destination in the Fischbach Alps.

But also in winter it is wonderful to hike in the heart of the Waldheimat, as Rosegger also called his home. Not only the birthplace (hiking trail usually cleared), but also the small chapel not far from the forest school, the Lentkreuz on the way to St. Kathrein am Hauenstein or the paths from Alpl in the direction of Hauereck delight all nature lovers.

From the Forest School via the Birthplace to the Lent Cross

The section of the BergZeitReise that lets you experience the Waldheimat most intensively in the context of a leisurely day hike is the one that includes the Waldschule, the Geburtshaus and parts of the Christmettenweg.

We start at the P at the forest school, visit the small chapel above the school (usually open), which was built in 1970 as the first small all-Christian place of worship and then, back at the forest school, follow the small road that leads south. After about 200 meters, a wide forest road branches off to the right uphill (numerous signposts) to the birthplace. Following this path we reach the Kluppeneggerhof, Peter Rosegger's birthplace, after about 25 - 30 minutes on foot. At the administration building (this is located slightly above the birthplace, signpost, information board), our path continues downhill keeping left in the direction of the Schmiedhofer farm.

After a short while we pass the Schmiedhofer homestead and come to a crossroads at the Lentkreuz crossroads, where we continue out of the valley (to the left) and walk along the small road, which is usually cleared, back to the starting point at the forest school.

From the forest school to the "Red Cross

Now we hike on a section of the BergZeitReise, which leads us away from the center of the Waldheimat and into the forests around the Hauereck, which can almost be described as lonely. This tour is highly recommended for snowshoe hikers and brings us to the so-called "Red Cross". This stands as a memorial to St. Catherine here in the middle of the forest. St. Catherine is said to have once blinded the Turks here in such a way that they believed they were standing in front of a sea, turned back and thus spared St. Kathrein am Hauenstein.

Well, to get to this memorable place, we first hike from the forest school uphill to the Schlagobersbauer inn and from there to the B72 federal highway. ), our way continues (signpost, beautiful view of the Kluppeneggerhof) in a northeasterly direction through extensive forests to the Jägerhöhe and, following the marked hiking trail, to the "Red Cross" standing in the forest. We return along the same path, but after the Jägerhöhe we turn left and return via the GH Roseggerhof and the Ziesler Anger to the GH Schlagobersbauer and the forest school.

Since the memorials are all closed in winter, it is definitely recommended to make a short detour to the Heroes' Chapel above the forest school. The small, usually open chapel was built in 1970 and is considered the first place of worship for all Christian denominations.
