Culture in Hochsteiermark

In the Waldheimat region, you can follow in the footsteps of Peter Rosegger. The area surrounding Krieglach and Langenwang owes its name to one of the famous Austrian writer’s novels. For fascinating insights into his life and work, visit the place where he lived, the forest school or Rosegger museum.

Talking about museums: In Mürzzuschlag, you can find several of them. For instance, Brahms-Museum is dedicated to the life of the famous romantic composer. If you’re a fan of contemporary art, we recommend Kunsthaus muerz, if you’re interested in seeing exhibits from 2,000 years of skiing history, visit WinterSportMuseum.

What would Mürzzuschlag be without the Semmering railway, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage since 1998? At the venerable locomotive halls of SÜDBAHN museum, fans of railway history can expand their knowledge.

If you’re looking for even more excursion destinations, we recommend Erlebniswelt Holzknechtland, Kaiserhof glass manufactory or Oberkapfenberg Castle.
