In Hochsteiermark, fans of mountain biking are spoilt for choice. If you’re looking for inspiration, have a look at the following list – ranging from easy to more challenging tours.

Freßnitzgraben – Peter Rosegger’s birthplace

During this easy MTB tour you can follow in the footsteps of famous Austrian poet Peter Rosegger. It is suitable for the whole family and starts at the municipal office of Krieglach. From there, follow Freßnitzbach up to the forest school at Alpl and continue towards Peter Rosegger’s birthplace.

BergRadlTour to Schneealm

This scenic mountain tour is suitable for experienced mountain bikers. It starts at Teichwirt Urani with a steep ascent until the plateau opens up and the tour becomes a bit less challenging. Further along the way, you can either make a quick detour to Schneealpenhaus or follow the trail to Lurgbauerhütte. To get back to the starting point, simply follow the forest road back down.

A tour of culinary delights: If you would like to sample tasty venison goulash, we recommend dropping by at Schneealpenhaus mountain hut. Alternatively, the savoury organic cheese at Almsennerei Lurgbauer is also a real treat.

Bruck an der Mur – Madereck

This intermediate tour takes you up to Madereck, one of Bruck an der Mur’s three landmark mountains. The tour starts at Bruck main square and continues uphill past the local power station and Gasthaus Kuhnes. From there, follow the trail across a meadow and through a light high forest until you reach the summit cross.
