Haller Mauern
The stone boundary
The Haller Mauern stretch like a stone wall between Styria and Upper Austria – a line of limestone, wind and a thirst for adventure. And although the name suggests a boundary, they open the door to countless possibilities: whether in summer or winter, at a leisurely pace or at a brisk one, in hiking boots, with a rope or on skis – there’s something for everyone here.
The Großer Pyhrgas is the king of the range. At 2,244 metres, it towers above everything – proud, offering stunning views and, on a clear day, a panorama that will leave you speechless. But its neighbours are no slouches either: the Bosruck, Scheiblingstein, Lahnerkogel and all the others – a collection of peaks that makes a hiker’s heart beat faster.
What makes the Haller Mauern special is that they’re accessible yet wild. Alpine, but not aloof. Here, you can hike into the sunrise, walk through rustling autumn leaves or carve fresh firn runs in spring. A true all-year-round mountain range – to fall in love with, linger in and return to.
The Haller Mauern are like a playlist full of nothing but hits. Not a single miss, not a single peak that doesn’t have that certain something. Anyone out and about here can sense it: this isn’t just an afterthought to the Gesäuse – it’s a real highlight in its own right.
