Horse riding

To all those who’d like to experience the (other) world at horsepower: there are animals and trails! Discovering the meadows and woods of the Gesäuse at a gallop, with leaves rustling beneath your hooves and the wind in your face – it’s a real treat! If you don’t have your own horse, you’re in luck – you can ‘borrow’ one from various places.

On horseback through the Gesäuse

Beauty, balance, rhythm – all good things come in threes and bring you – whether during riding lessons or a trail ride – into perfect harmony with the horse and yourself. Because you can lose yourself in the countryside. The network of bridleways is particularly dense around the individual equestrian centres, such as the Laussabauer Organic & Riding Centre, the Haflingerhof Gams or the Rodeo Reiterranch in Rottenmann. In some places, you’ll ride with views of the impressive mountain scenery; in others, you’ll cross – quite naturally – little streams. The route continues across lush meadows and along romantic paths through beautiful forests. Over hill and dale – that’s what riding should be like. As the saying goes, ‘Happiness on earth lies on the back of a horse.’ And in the Gesäuse, that’s actually true. Honestly!

Riding centres & horse-drawn sleighs

Whether it’s a ride out, a riding lesson or a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the winter landscape, you’ll find the perfect activity for you in the Gesäuse.
