Rafting on the Salza and Enns

Dive headfirst into the fun, always keeping your paddle at the ready. Rafting is great fun, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddler: the Enns and Salza – two of the region’s finest rivers – are just waiting for adventure-seeking water lovers. You’ll wind your way cheerfully through the region, close to the water, and see it from a unique perspective. The Alpine river glistens, framed by unspoilt vegetation amidst a rocky backdrop.

It all starts with carrying: on the one hand, you’re wearing a smart wetsuit; on the other, you’re carrying your kit – in this case, a large rubber dinghy. You make your way towards your destination in small steps, keeping a close eye on the water all the while. The anticipation is high. Because the thrill of white water is so close.

Paddling fun

Before you know it, you’re diving under to adapt to the conditions, coming into close contact with the many cold drops of water that converge there to form the Enns and Salza. And after a brief introduction, the wild ride begins. It gets more turbulent in spring and calmer in high summer, which is down to the meltwater and the resulting water level. The important thing is to let yourself drift or paddle at just the right moment, depending on what the charming and witty rafting guide thinks is best. After all, he knows the river like the back of his hand.

Highlights

There’s so much to see from a rafter’s perspective: the conglomerate gorge – the jewel of the emerald-green Salza – as well as the rock faces towering over 1,800 metres high and the wild, roaring waters of the Enns below. Water lovers should sample the river delights on offer from the Gesäuse National Park and the Styrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park. It’s a real rafting feast!

Salza

Emerald-coloured and stunning, the Salza winds its way through the Styrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park, looking absolutely magnificent as it does so.

Enns

Depending on her mood, she can be quick-tempered and lively, and then completely calm again.

Good to know

Versprochen!
