The young Lipizzaner mares spend their summer in the Gleinalm hiking region. The shelter "Schutzhaus" and Maria Schnee can be reached by car on the dates of the mountain masses via Übelbach / Neuhof.
The hiking region Gleinalm is among the foothills of the Eastern Alps and is, with its gentle ridges, one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Styria. There are various ways of reaching this area from OberGraz. The Gleinalm is actually a pure hiking alp. The mountain refuge can be reached in a three-hour from Krautwasch. At certain dates and times, however, it is permitted to travel there conveniently by car via Neuhof near Übelbach.
By car to the shelter
Take the A9 and Übelbach exit, head through the village towards Neuhof. From the Hoyer barrier it's about eight kilometres over a gravel forest road up to the Gleinalm Schutzhaus (travel time from Übelbach about 25 minutes). Lipizzaner experience - Heaven on earth
Lipizzaner young mares spend the summer on the Brendlalm during their youth. Just a 25-minute walk from the Gleinalm shelter, you can find out all about the young Lipizzaner mares's summer “holiday” during an extensive guided tour of the alpine pastures. Tickets are only available before the guided tour from the Gleinalm shelter. Participants in the Lipizzaner Gleinalm experience who have previously purchased a ticket at the Gleinalm shelter are welcomed by a member of the stud farm staff at the pasture entrance. Dates: 24 June, 2 and 25 July, 5 and 24 August.

The morning is one of the most beautiful times to be up on the mountain. When nature awakes and the sun slowly rises above the horizon, the Gleinalm presents a magically beautiful view. Early risers are offered the opportunity to experience a unique view of OberGraz and to enjoy a delightful mountain breakfast. From Peggau, one can travel up and up to the Gleinalm mountain refuge very comfortably by taxi. The mountain refuge can otherwise only be reached by foot. Mountain air gives you an appetite. It makes the alpine breakfast in the mountain refuge taste especially good. There is no better way to start the day.
