Graz Truffles

A culinary treasure from Graz

Graz is the only city in Austria where truffles grow in notable quantities in its forests. Different truffle varieties grow naturally, particularly in the Leechwald forest.

The varieties used in the kitchen include Burgundy or autumn truffles, summer truffles and winter truffles. These underground fungi are found with the help of specially trained truffle dogs.

In autumn, Graz truffles take centre stage at the International Truffle Festival. The truffle market, guided truffle walks and truffle dishes served by partner businesses of GenussHauptstadt Graz bring the theme into the heart of the city.

At the Paradeishof, regional and international truffle specialities meet selected wines and culinary offerings. The programme also includes events, tastings and guided truffle walks in the Leechwald forest.

Graz truffles in the Leechwald

Naturally grown

Graz truffles grow naturally, particularly in the Leechwald forest. Unlike truffles cultivated on specially established plantations, they are not deliberately grown here. Truffle dogs track down the fungi growing underground.

Several varieties of truffle can be found in Graz. Those used in the kitchen include Burgundy or autumn truffles, summer truffles and winter truffles.

Guided truffle hikes

With truffle dogs in the Leechwald

On guided truffle hikes in the Leechwald, trained truffle dogs help track down the fungi growing underground. Along the way, participants also learn about truffles and the forest ecosystem.

The hikes take place as part of the International Truffle Festival 2026 from 20 to 30 October. Afterwards, Graz truffles can be tasted at Purberg im Hilmteichschlössl.

Graz truffles on the plate

A season of fine flavours

During the Graz Truffle Festival, partner restaurants of GenussHauptstadt Graz put truffles on the menu. They serve Graz truffles as well as truffles from Styria, Alba and Istria – from classic dishes to modern interpretations.

Some restaurants pair their truffle dishes with Styrian truffle wines, whose character and aromas complement the flavours of truffles particularly well.

Truffles and wine

Styrian wines as companions

Full-bodied, dry Styrian white wines pair particularly well with Graz truffles. Each year, selected Styrian truffle wines are awarded for their character and aromas, which complement the complex flavours of truffles particularly well.

The award-winning wines are presented at the International Truffle Market in Graz and accompany selected truffle dishes at partner restaurants of Capital of Delight Graz
