Hammerleck via lookout point
Characteristics
SkillThe tour in numbers
The destination of this hike is a panoramic alpine pasture at approx. 1400 m above sea level, known to the locals as Hammerleck, or Hammerleck-Wiese. The ascent from Fohnsdorf leads a short distance through the populated urban area and then you are already on forest roads and hiking trails. The newly marked and signposted trail leads via the Sillweg lookout point, through well-tended woodland areas, up to the Hammerleck. During the ascent, you already have a wonderful view of the largest inner-alpine basin in Styria (Judenburg-Knittelfeld basin) and the Seetal Alps, the Gleinalpe and Stubalpe peaks and the southern Limestone Alps towering behind it. The Sillweg lookout point was built back in 1909 and is a popular excursion and hiking destination in the region.

More information
From Judenburg via the Murtal expressway S36 (toll sticker required) to the "Judenburg-Ost" exit and on to Fohnsdorf (10 km, approx. 15 minutes).
No time limit and free parking at the stadium in Fohnsdorf. The parking lot (on the country road at the eastern end of the town in the direction of Rattenberg) is only a 5-minute walk from the main square.
We start at the main square in Fohnsdorf (1), 736 m, and walk slightly uphill along Grabenstraße, past the parish church and after a short time turn right into Höhenstraße. A short stretch along Höhenstraße and then left into Precheisengasse, which we follow to the junction with Traunerweg. We now hike uphill along the Traunerweg, first on the asphalt road and then on a gravel road to the Trauner farmstead (2), 849m. From here, we follow a well-maintained path slightly uphill and after a wooden path we come directly to a forest road. A little way uphill along the forest road and we see the entrance to the Sillweger viewing platform on the right-hand side. The trail leads gently up and down until we reach the Sillweger Aussichtswarte (3),959 m. After a panoramic break, we follow the path uphill, cross a forest road, continue over a few steps and follow the well-marked hiking trail uphill until we come to a wide forest path on the left, which now continues almost level, past a memorial cross. When the forest thins out, we come to a larger turning point and here the hiking trail branches off to the right. From here, the trail continues uphill along a hollow path to a forest road junction and the detour to Sillweger Berg. Here we keep slightly to the right uphill and follow the wide forest road for approx. 500 m until we come to the junction on the left (4), 1310 m, and now continue along a path again. After passing through a fence, we continue left on a forest road and soon reach the open alpine pastures and the Hammerleck (Hölzelkogel) (5), 1451 m, on the hilltop in front of us. The way back is via the ascent route, whereby you can shorten the detour to the Sillweger lookout point and come directly via the forest road to the path we already know.
