This beautiful hike to the Fohnsdorfer Hütte is a lovely tour in the Murtal adventure region.

Beautiful hiking tour in the Murtal adventure region, which is also very popular with the locals. With refreshment stops at the Fohnsdorfer Hütte and the Stoxreiter cider tavern, you are well catered for.

Travelling from:

VIENNA (approx. 2 hours)Take the A2 motorway to the Seebenstein junction, direction S6 Semmering. Follow the Murtalschnellstraße S36 until exit Judenburg Ost. Turn right towards Hetzendorf on the L516 (Judenburger Straße). Follow the road signs to Fohnsdorf Hauptplatz.

LINZ (approx. 2 hours)Take the A1 motorway in the direction of Salzburg. In Sattledt change to the A9 motorway towards Graz as far as the St. Michael i.O. junction. Continue on the Murtalschnellstraße S36 towards Klagenfurt until the Judenburg Ost exit. Turn right towards Hetzendorf on the L516 (Judenburger Straße). Follow the road signs to Fohnsdorf Hauptplatz.

SALZBURG (approx. 2 hours)At Salzburg Nord take the A1 towards Linz Wien, at the Voralpenkreuz junction take the A9 towards Graz as far as the St. Michael i.O. junction. Continue on the Murtalschnellstraße S36 to the Judenburg Ost exit. Turn right towards Hetzendorf on the L516 (Judenburger Straße). Follow the road signs to Fohnsdorf Hauptplatz.

KLAGENFURT (approx. 1 hour)Klagenfurt Ost onto the A2 motorway towards Graz Wolfsberg. Take the Bad St. Leonhard exit onto the Obdacher Bundesstraße B78 in the direction of Zeltweg. Take the Zeltweg bypass onto the S36, direction Klagenfurt, after approx. 2.5 km take the Judenburg Ost exit. Turn right towards Hetzendorf on the L516 (Judenburger Straße). Follow the road signs to Fohnsdorf Hauptplatz.MURAU (approx. 1/2 hour)Follow the Murtal Bundesstraße B96 in the direction of Scheifling. Turn left onto the Friesacher Bundesstraße B317 towards Judenburg. Follow the Murtal motorway S36 to the Judenburg Ost exit. Turn right towards Hetzendorf on the L516 (Judenburger Straße). Follow the road signs to Fohnsdorf Hauptplatz.

There are several car parks available directly at the starting point in Grabenstraße

The starting point is the Fohnsdorfer Graben at the hiking board. Passing the ruins via the Panoramaweg, you reach the Gstättnerweg. Along the marked trail no. 993 you reach the Gstättner. Pass the small chapel and follow the hiking trail to the Fohnsdorfer Berg and the Hölzlkogel until you reach a fork in the trail. Continue left along path no. 988 to the Fohnsdorferhütte, the refuge of Naturfreunde Fohnsdorf. This is open from May to September at weekends and on public holidays. Return in the direction of Schlapfkogel, following the forest path to the Stoxreiter snack station (trail no. 989). Along the Hödlmoserweg you return to the open-cast mine in Antoni. Via the Hangweg - Hochwiesenweg - Bergmanngasse and Schulgasse you return to the starting point in Fohnsdorfer Graben.

In rain and snow, but also under time, watch out for slipping and tripping hazards. Good shoes and clothing suitable for the weather are an advantage!

The Fohnsdorfer Hütte is open on weekends from May to the end of September!

Tuesday & Wednesday closed!

On the way back you walk along the Hödlmoserweg, which tells the life of the Hödlmoser family with display boards.
