Pilgrimage Route Passail

Open
From the market town of Passail to the "Kleinheilbrunn" chapel and back to Passail with a great view.
The community circular trail leads along the "Hochweg" through the districts of Auen, Krammersdorf and Hohenau, returning via Haufenreith. A somewhat longer walk that leads past the small pilgrim chapel "Kleinheilbrunn". The way back offers views from the Schöckl to the Rote Wand and also has a wonderful resting place in the Passail fish ponds.

The origin of "Kleinheilbrunn" goes back to a legend: a farmer put up an image of the Virgin Mary out of gratitude for having survived a serious accident. One day the image disappeared and was found exactly where the chapel now stands. The image was brought back, disappeared again and was found again in the same place. Now the farmer understood the sign and built the first chapel here in 1672, and in 1824 it was completed in its present form. At the place where the image of the Virgin Mary was found, a small spring springs up which is said to have a healing effect on eye ailments.

All information for the journey

Please orientate yourself by the indicated waypoints, the path is NOT marked as a "pilgrim path"!
  • We start at the parking deck and walk past Blumenland and the Schrenk Restaurant.
  • Now we cross the road and walk down the "Hintergasse" and cross the Raab bridge in front of "Blumen Kalcher".
  • Immediately after the bridge, turn right (at the Holzstadl) into the lower "Hochweg" (trail no. 730).
  • Below the Gaasberg we now walk a little way out in the direction of Hohenau and enjoy the beautiful views of the Sattelberge.
  • ATTENTION: Before we reach the forest, we turn left uphill and walk through the forest to Auen.
  • Above the terraced houses of Auen, we meet the municipal road again and walk up it a little further.
  • Immediately after the crossroads, we descend to the right and walk a short distance along the forest path (marked "Kleinheilbrunn/Krammersdorf).
  • As soon as you leave the forest, turn right (trail no. 8) and walk - first through a farmstead and past a bench - down to the municipal road.
  • Vis-a-vis, we can already see the church tower of "Kleinheilbrunn" on the slope. At the municipal road, turn right and walk down to the path leading up to the chapel (marked "Krammersdorf/Kleinheilbrunn").
  • A nice resting place awaits visitors in front of the chapel, the view is somewhat restricted since the construction of a goat shed, but still beautiful.
  • Past the chapel on the right, the marker "Hohenau/Krammersdorf" leads us further along the forest.
  • At the crossroads in the forest, we keep to the left and walk up to Krammersdorf.
  • As soon as we leave the forest, we see the Patscha with the Weizklamm gorge directly in front of us.
  • We walk towards the district of Krammersdorf and turn left at the municipal road.
  • Past houses, we come to a field path again ("Hohenau/Dorf St. Kathrein"), at the crossroads we continue straight on.
  • We have now arrived in Krammersdorf, immediately up on the left is the former "Mostschenke" or "Mostheurige Gangl", vulgo "Rausch'n".
  • Continue straight on to reach the centre of the village and turn left downhill at the crossroads until you reach the Holzstadl with the post boxes.
  • Now follow the signs for "Haufenreith/Taxwirt, Sattelberge" out along the farm track.
  • At the crossroads we continue straight on, not letting the sign "Privatweg" (private path) confuse us.
  • At the crossroads with the B64 main road, keep to the right.
  • At the crossroads in front of "Wohnwagen Harrer" we reach the main road and turn left along the pavement to the petrol station and the Taxwirt inn.
  • Here we cross the main road and immediately after the Taxwirt we walk down the meadow to the forest.
  • In the forest we take the path to the left, cross the new bridge and soon reach the municipal road in the direction of "Haufenreith".
  • We keep to the right and now hike a nice distance up into the village of Haufenreith, after a farmstead we turn sharp right onto the hiking trail to Passail (marking: "Hohenau/Passail").
  • At the crossroads in Hohenau, continue straight on in the direction of "Passail/Fischteiche".
  • Past the fish ponds and along the houses of the settlement, we walk up the path to the main road or "Weizerstraße".
  • Continue along the pavement to the left until you reach the market square in Passail.
  • At the market square, we cross the main road again and walk the last part up to the left to the starting point at the "Parkdeck".
A stop at the Schrenk - either before or after the hike - is highly recommended in any case!
