Fun for families at the wildlife park

Wilder Berg in Mautern

Up the mountain and straight into adventure: A diverse list of activities is waiting for visitors at Wilder Berg in Mautern. The starting point for all the exciting experiences is the valley station. From there, you’ll have several options to get to the top:

  • You can walk up Wilder Berg on the forest hiking trail – past numerous adventure stations on the topics of wood, the forest, and nature.
  • The chairlift takes passengers comfortably up the mountain, and you’ll even get a few first glimpses of some of the 300 Alpine animals.
  • Families with prams take the park bus. Good to know: Dogs are allowed on the bus as well, as long as they’re kept on a leash and wear a muzzle.

The early bird catches the worm: Online ticket holders start their visit without having to queue at the ticket office.

Activities at Wilder Berg

Once at the top, exciting activities await – and they’re at least as diverse as the scenic views that park visitors get to enjoy there. The daily wildlife schedule includes feedings of bears, wild cats, foxes, and raccoons. From Tuesday to Sunday, impressive bird of prey shows take place twice a day. The last item on the list is a guided tour of the park's apiary.

Other experiences with animals include hikes with alpacas and full moon tours. Anyone who wants to slip into the role of an animal keeper for a day gets the unique opportunity to do so at Wilder Berg. From 7:30 in the morning, you can lend a hand. The list of tasks includes mucking out the stables and assisting in feeding the animals.

Culinary delights at Wilder Berg

Once your hunger for adventure has been satisfied, it's time to appease your hunger for delicious food. Steinbockalm, one of the Kulinarium Steiermark establishments, welcomes hungry guests with regional culinary delights: From hearty delicacies to sweet temptations, everyone will find what they crave. The lovingly prepared dishes can be enjoyed either on the sundeck or in the spacious restaurant.

Down in the valley, Bärenstube is the place to go. And while parents enjoy a cup of coffee, their little ones can romp around in the playground.

An exciting descent

After an eventful day on the mountain, an equally exciting return trip awaits. For your journey down into the valley, you’ll have two action-packed options to choose from – besides the hiking trail, the bus or the chairlift, of course:
On specially designed go-karts, so-called mountain karts, thrill-seekers can tear down the mountain as fast as they dare to go. In good weather, the 1,200-metre Wiesengleiter summer toboggan run takes you down Wilder Berg.
