How to get to Erzberg-Leoben
By car, train or plane
A glance at the map shows that Erzberg-Leoben is right in the heart of Austria and thus very centrally located. The villages are conveniently connected in terms of public transport. And well-developed motorways lead directly to the region. Visitors coming here by train benefit from good connections to the popular holiday destination.

From Vienna, take the A 23 Southeast Bypass and the S 6 Semmering Expressway toward Leoben-Ost. The town of Niklasdorf is located along the S 6. Take the Leoben-Ost exit, then follow the B 116 Leoben Federal Highway directly into the center of Leoben.
From Graz, follow the A 9 to the Deutschfeistritz interchange. From there, take the S 35 to Bruck an der Mur and then the S 6 toward Leoben. Niklasdorf is the first town in the region along this route. Take the Leoben-Ost exit and follow the B 116 to reach the center of Leoben directly.
From Salzburg, take the A 9 toward Graz via the Voralpenkreuz interchange. Along the A 9 are the towns of Wald am Schoberpaß, Mautern, Kammern, and Traboch. From the St. Michael interchange, the S 6 leads to Leoben-West. You can quickly reach the center of Leoben via Turmgasse.
From Munich, follow the A 8 in Germany, then continue on the A 9 in Austria. The towns of Mautern, Kammern, and Traboch are located along the A 9. From the St. Michael interchange, the S 6 leads to Leoben-West. You can quickly reach the center of Leoben via Turmgasse.

Getting here by train
The train stations in Leoben and St. Michael are very centrally located on a route serving both long-distance and local rail service. There are numerous train connections to these stations from both Vienna and Munich. At the vacation destination itself, numerous attractions and the starting points for various hiking trails are easily accessible by public transportation.
From Vienna, you can travel comfortably by train to Leoben in about two hours and ten minutes. With one transfer in Bruck an der Mur, there are an average of two connections per hour.
The trip from Graz to Leoben takes about 50 minutes, either directly or with a transfer in Bruck an der Mur. Travelers can choose from about three connections per hour.
From Munich, Leoben can be reached by train in about five to six hours. One or two transfers are necessary, depending on which of the hourly connections you choose.
Leoben’s city center is located about 1.5 km from Leoben’s main train station and can also be easily reached on foot.

Getting here by plane
If you are travelling by plane, you can choose between two destination airports:
- Vienna Airport (Lower Austria) is about one hour and 45 minutes away from Leoben by car.
- From Graz Airport (Styria), your onward journey to the region will take about 45 minutes by car.
Mobility on site
From the train stations in Leoben and St. Michael, holidaymakers can get to the nearby towns quickly and easily with the buses of Verbundlinien. From Leoben, bus line 820 travels to Eisenerz at regular intervals. Bus line 830 takes its passengers comfortably from St. Michael to Wald am Schoberpass.
For day trips to Graz, the bus or train are a great choice as well. By train, you can reach Graz main station in one hour. Your bus journey starts at the main station in Leoben as well and ends at the FlixBus stop in Girardigasse in Graz.

The digital vignette for Austria’s highways and expressways is available online at shop.asfinag.at as well as at authorized sales locations such as gas stations, tobacco shops, and automobile clubs. You can find a list of all sales locations here: asfinag.at/vertriebsstellen. Additional vending machines are available, particularly at border crossings.
Short-term vignettes (1-day and 10-day) are always valid immediately. When purchasing 2-month and annual vignettes online, a 18-day waiting period applies to consumers. The reason for this is the statutory cancellation period for online transactions. This does not apply if the vignette is purchased as a business owner. If you purchase the digital vignette directly at a physical retail location, the 18-day waiting period does not apply, and all types of vignettes are valid immediately.
The airport closest to Leoben is Graz Airport. From there, you can reach Leoben in about an hour by car and in an hour and a half by public transportation.
