The Starcke House on the Graz Castle Hill has a long history. Originally built in the 16th century as a powder tower, it was converted in the early 19th century into a small winery house with neo-Gothic elements. Surrounded by vineyards and vegetable gardens, it later served the actor and poet Gustav Starcke as a summer residence. Here he wrote texts in which he captured the special atmosphere of the Castle Hill and gave the house its name. The view over the city, the quiet location, and the historic structure make the building to this day a place with its own charm.
Since the late 1990s, the Starcke House has been operated as a restaurant. Head chef Milivoj Novak focuses on a fine combination of regional products with Mediterranean influences. Seasonal menus reflect the diversity of ingredients, many of which come from their own cultivation. This results in dishes that impress with precise preparation and creative combinations. The view from the terrace and the special ambiance of the historic building complete the experience and make a visit a moment where history and culinary art harmoniously meet.
