Awarded by Gault Millau: 3 toques (15.5 points) | Falstaff: 2 forks | listed by Guide Michelin
At only 21 years old, Herbert Schmidhofer was recognized as the youngest toque chef in Austria. Today, he looks back on more than three decades of professional experience and is among the established chefs in the country. In 2016, “Schmidhofer im Palais” opened with him as chef and namesake, and three years later he, along with his wife Birgit, took over the restaurant independently. It is housed in the historic Palais Herberstein on Sackstraße, whose architecture provides the framework for a modern gastronomic concept.
Schmidhofer represents a cuisine that combines international influences with down-to-earth elements. Creative combinations arise from fresh ingredients and artisanal skills, complemented by a carefully curated wine selection. In summer, the terrace in the courtyard invites outdoor dining, while the dining rooms, with their blend of historical charm and contemporary design, create a unique setting.
