Graz Opera

Graz

Neo-Baroque brilliance and grand stage art.

The Graz Opera House is one of the most significant attractions in Graz and impresses with its neobaroque architecture, magnificent marble staircase, and gold-red splendor in the auditorium. Opened in 1899, it is considered the second-largest opera house in Austria after the Vienna State Opera. Restorations have preserved the imperial atmosphere of the Habsburg era while integrating modern stage technology.

As a cultural center, the Graz Opera House thrills audiences with opera, ballet, musicals, and concerts. Home to the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and awarded Opera House of the Year in 2001, it offers impressive productions and top-notch acoustics. The light-filled foyer and elegant spatial concept create a unique overall experience.

In front of the historic building, the modern Light Sword sends a strong message for human rights. The combination of history, culture, and architecture makes the opera house a focal point for cultural tourism and a must-see for anyone wanting to experience Graz.
