Philipp Hochmair: "Der Hagestolz"
Philipp Hochmair adapts Stifter at the Obervoitsberg Castle Ruins, theater under starlight!
On August 28, Philipp Hochmair will present his adaptation of Adalbert Stifter’s “The Hagestolz” at the Obervoitsberg Castle Ruins in Styria. In this production, it is not the “Everyman” that takes center stage, but another classical work that opens up entirely new access points with its linguistic power and vivid imagery. The Obervoitsberg Castle Ruins, high above the Alpine foothills, provide an unusual setting and invite audiences to experience language and silence together.
Hochmair shapes the evening with presence and a fine sense for the density of Stifter’s text. The audience experiences a concentrated, almost chamber music-like interpretation that opens itself to the historic site and its atmosphere. As twilight descends over the ruins, a play of light and shadow emerges, making the text and theater feel even more intense. The experience here is different: no classical hall, but an open sky above ancient walls.
The Graz Region and Styria present their cultural side on this evening. People who appreciate language, landscape, and unusual performance spaces will find in Obervoitsberg a reason to consciously enjoy the late summer. Before or after the performance, the surroundings invite visitors to linger with hiking trails and viewpoints, creating space for conversations and a mindful look at nature and history.
Tickets will be available soon. It is worth keeping an eye on the advance sale to secure early access to this special theater evening and be part of an atmospheric night at a historic location.
