On the trail of the rural Christmas season
Atmospheric guided tour through the wintry museum valley with insights into old customs and the tranquil life of the farming winter season away from the Advent hustle and bustle today.
The tour “In the Footsteps of the Agricultural Christmas Time” at the Open-Air Museum Stübing in Styria opens a window to a quiet, different time. On November 8, 15 & 22, the expansive museum valley shows its peaceful side and tells about the life of the agricultural population during the winter months. After busy summers, everyday life shifted to the warm rooms. There, people spun, crafted, and spent time together. The Advent season was characterized by simple meals, fasting, and inner reflection. At the same time, small communities formed where work, storytelling, and laughter took place.
The tour makes this contrast palpable: here the simple, often harsh life in the countryside – there the bright, bustling Advent season in the city of Graz. Old customs such as oracle games provide insight into the beliefs and hopes of the people. The winter ambiance of the museum enhances the special mood.
