Sightseeing in rainy weather in Graz

Even under grey skies, Graz shows its charming side. With a rain jacket and umbrella, the historic Old Town can be explored at a relaxed pace - past Baroque façades, hidden courtyards and covered arcades.

Those who want to go higher can take the Schlossbergbahn or the lift directly up to the Clock Tower, enjoy views over rain-soaked Graz and then visit The Flight, a 4D cinema, The Slide, the world’s tallest indoor slide, or the Graz Fairy-Tale Railway inside the Schlossberg.

Sights such as the Graz Cathedral, the Mausoleum and the Joanneum Quarter offer additional cultural experiences - dry, atmospheric and full of history.

Rainy weather is shopping weather: in the city centre’s traditional yet modern shops, the choice of fashion, design, lifestyle and culinary delights is broad. This turns a stroll through the city into a colourful experience, even on grey days.

Museums & cultural highlights

The Landeszeughaus houses the world’s largest historical armoury. From late March 2026, the Universalmuseum Joanneum will dedicate a total of 10 exhibitions and further projects to flowers and their many facets under the motto “BLooM”.

The FRida & freD Children’s Museum inspires young explorers with interactive exhibitions and creative experience spaces. While the Schell Collection surprises visitors with the world’s largest collection of historical locks and keys, the Arnold Schwarzenegger Museum in Thal tells the story of the Styrian global star. Quiet places, powerful stories

Contemporary history and spirituality can be explored whatever the weather. Rein Abbey is considered the oldest Cistercian monastery in the world and impresses with its architecture and library. The pilgrimage churches Maria Straßengel and Maria Lankowitz are especially popular with pilgrims.

In Graz, the Stadtpfarrkirche with its artistic Baroque décor, the plain Franziskanerkirche with its peaceful cloister and the Mariahilferkirche with its striking twin-tower façade invite visitors to pause and reflect.

The Jakobuskirche in Thal, also known as the Ernst Fuchs Church, and St. Barbara Church in Bärnbach, designed by artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, stand out for their distinctive architecture and sacred art.

Enjoyment & culinary experiences

Moments of indulgence in any weather

When the weather does not play along, a rainy day can still be wonderfully spent in the cosy cafés, charming bars and stylish restaurants of the city. Whether with an extended breakfast, a fragrant cappuccino by the window or a good glass of Styrian wine, there are plenty of places to slow down and watch city life unfold at a relaxed pace.

Those looking to discover something new on the culinary side are also in good hands in the Capital of Delight. From modern cuisine to traditional specialities, Graz offers many opportunities for enjoyable hours - completely independent of the weather. Favourite places can also be found outside the city: regional delicacies, cosy Buschenschänken and award-winning haute cuisine make the region a true paradise for connoisseurs.

Without rain, Styria would not be so green.
