What guests can look forward to
Köflach combines urban diversity, living traditions and relaxing nature experiences in a compelling way.
In the district of Piber, a centuries-old tradition comes to life. Since 1920, Piber has been the birthplace of the famous Lipizzaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School. Surrounded by gentle pastures, broodmares and foals, visitors can experience the unique atmosphere of this renowned breeding centre at first hand. The cultural significance of this place is further highlighted by the fact that the knowledge of Lipizzaner breeding has been part of Austria’s national intangible cultural heritage since 2016.
Köflach is also a place to unwind. The NOVA Köflach thermal spa and its adjoining hotel offer generous bathing areas and a sauna landscape with panoramic deck, creating space to relax and recharge. Around the Dechantteich pond, the spa park unfolds its calm and restorative character. Walking paths, green surroundings and the Kardinal König Memorial Chapel turn this area into a peaceful retreat, which becomes even more enchanting during the Advent season with atmospheric light installations.
The town’s creative side is reflected in the Kunsthaus Köflach, where exhibitions and events provide vibrant cultural impulses. Those who prefer to explore Köflach actively will find a network of popular walking and hiking trails that connect the town, the stud farm and the surrounding landscape in a particularly appealing way.
