For all those who not only like hiking but also like to stop for a bite to eat, this tour in the Murtal adventure region is just right. Through the beautiful pine forest you can hike in a great round the two huts Winterleitenhütte and Sabathyhütte in the adventure region Murtal.

The starting point is the Gasthaus Schmelz or the parking lot below the Winterleitenhütte.

Attention: in wet conditions it is very slippery on the colloquially called "Ho Chi Minh Trail". Surefootedness is absolutely recommended here!

From Obdach drive to St. Wolfgang and there turn left in front of the church. Follow the road until you reach the Schmelz.

Murtalschnellstraße (S36) to Judenburg-West - into the town of Judenburg and at the traffic circle turn right in the direction of Oberweg, and always follow the country road in the direction of TÜPLSchmelz - from there continue to Winterleitenhütte.

On the Schmelz you have sufficient parking possibilities.

From the Schmelz, take trail 315 to the Winterleitenhütte, past the small Winterleiten lake and continue to the junction. Via trail 32 ("Ho Chi Minh Trail") you continue to the Sabathyhütte. Trail 31 (forest road) closes the circular tour back to the Schmelzhütte.

In order to really enjoy a hike in the Zirbenland and relax while doing so, please keep the following points in mind:

Plan your stages according to your condition and ability. Take your time. Divide your strength very well, take enough breaks.
There are very long sections. Not everywhere there are possibilities to stop for refreshments. For a long-distance hiker it goes without saying that he should have enough drinks (and snacks) with him.
Adapt your behavior to the respective conditions, both meteorological and ground conditions. Study the weather forecast daily.
Pay attention to yourself and other hikers.

Dress appropriately for a hike:

Wear weather-appropriate, durable clothing. In any case, the clothing should protect you from possible rain and cold or sun and heat.
Even low mountain ranges often hold meteorological surprises. It is not uncommon, even in June, for a cold snap to occur at higher altitudes (so-called sheep cold).
Sandals, bathing slippers, even sneakers are not the appropriate footwear for a hike.
Use hiking boots with ankle protection. Make sure they have a good tread and grip. After downpours, it can be very slippery in the forest, even in summer, on roots, leaves and stones.

Finally, you can treat yourself to a Zirben schnapps and homemade pasta in the Sabathyhütte. Own products in the store, as well as when the hut is closed at the vending machine the possibility to refresh yourself.
