A varied loop hike through Hohentauern: Starting at the Zwergenwald, the Taurer Activity loop takes you past the Moscher Sports Center, along the Reitsteig trail to the historic mining site, and back to the village via the Wasserweg trail. A loop full of stories, nature experiences, and lovely places to stop for a break.
The Taurer Activity Tour combines several unique activity areas around Hohentauern into a varied hiking trail. Right at the start, in the Zwergenwald (Dwarf Forest), you’ll be immersed in a little world full of stories, characters, and lovingly designed stations. The route then leads past the Moscher Sports Center and on via the Reitsteig trail to the historic mining world. As the loop progresses, the landscape changes constantly: forests and meadows, narrow paths, open stretches, and water-rich sections ensure plenty of variety. The tour finally leads back to Hohentauern via the Wasserweg. The result is a diverse loop that combines nature, stories, and regional highlights. To wrap things up, stop by one of the local establishments in Hohentauern. This is a good way to end the hike on a leisurely note—true to the motto: from the Dwarf Forest to culinary delights.

The tour starts in Hohentauern and initially heads toward Zwergenwald. After just a short while, the first adventure section of the loop begins: small figures, stories, and lovingly designed stations make this part especially exciting for families. The route then continues through Zwergenwald and past the Moscher Sports Center. From there, it continues along the Reitsteig to the historic mining world. This section adds a bit more of a hiking feel to the loop, combining forest and meadow areas with beautiful views of the Hohentauern region. Afterward, the character of the tour changes once again. The loop leads back to Hohentauern along the water trail. Along this section, small streams and natural areas line the path before you reach the town again. To wrap things up, stop for a bite to eat in Hohentauern.
We recommend sturdy shoes with good traction, weather-appropriate clothing, and plenty of drinks. The trail follows a variety of paths and may be slippery in places, depending on the weather. Please stay on the marked trails and adjust your hike according to the weather, visibility, and your own abilities. Children should be closely supervised, especially in forested areas, near water, and on roads.
Families should plan enough time to explore, look around, and take breaks.
