“The extensive one": A wonderful summit hike to one of the region's local mountains, the Steinplan at 1670 m above sea level in the Murtal adventure region, awaits you. True to the motto: From the valley to the mountain with a difference in altitude of over 1000 meters!
Tour corresponds to trail no. 45f on signposts on site and in the regional hiking map.

The community of Lobmingtal offers numerous local recreation and hiking trails, which were newly designed, marked and signposted in the summer of 2020. This hike to the Steinplan is certainly the most challenging, varied and panoramic hike, starting from Großlobming. The Steinplan can be hiked from many sides and offers a worthwhile destination in the form of the Steinplan shelter, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the summit cross. The route is varied and numerous viewing and rest areas invite you to enjoy the panorama, especially on the descent. The route is the same for the ascent and the descent, but especially on this hike the descent represents a completely new perspective. And... if it is too far, you can turn back at any time and have a beautiful hike in the Murtal region in any case.

Parking lot of the Raiffeisenbank in Großlobming
Tour corresponds to trail no. 45f on signposts on site and in the regional hiking map.

We start in the center or at the parking lot of the Raiffeisenbank in Großlobming (1), 641 m, and follow the yellow signposts with the inscription "Lobmingtaler Höhenweg". It goes through the center of the village and then left into the Sulzbachgraben. At the end of the avenue trees we go right, past the houses and in succession steadily, partly steeper, uphill through the forest. We follow the markings, along hollow and forest paths, until we reach the hunter's cross at Lobmingtaler-Rosenkogel (2), 1008m. After a leisurely break, we continue slightly downhill, at the farm vlg. Gföller (3), 920 m, and continue slightly uphill along the asphalt road. During the ascent we have a wonderful view of the largest inner alpine basin of Styria and the Seetaler, Seckauer Alps and Wölzer Tauern towering behind it. At the next crossing we keep straight on and follow the wide gravel road continuously uphill, at the farm vlg. Kalchbauer (4), 1150 m and the Stoana hut. During the ascent we have a wonderful view here before we enter the forest. At the next crossroads (5), 1280 m, we see the yellow signpost in the direction of Steinplan with a time indication. Continuing uphill we come to the wayside cross "Überstiegl Papst Pirschtling" and from now on we are on the well-marked Weitwanderweg 02. The trail crosses a gravel road several times and leads directly to the Steinplan (6), 1670 m, where a refuge of the Friends of Nature is located in the immediate vicinity of the summit cross.

For a conflict-free coexistence on alpine pastures and meadows it is important to observe a few rules, especially when traveling with dogs. (Source: www.sichere-almen.at  - 06/2021)
  • Avoid contact with grazing animals, do not feed them, keep a safe distance!
  • Keep calm, do not frighten grazing animals!
  • Mother cows protect their calves. Avoid encounters between mother cows and dogs!
  • Always keep dogs under control and on a short leash. If an attack by a grazing animal is foreseeable: Immediately unleash!
  • Do not leave hiking trails on alpine pastures and meadows!
  • If grazing animals block the way, avoid them as far as possible!
  • When grazing animals approach: Stay calm, do not turn your back, avoid the animals!
  • Leave the grazing area quickly at the first sign of restlessness of the animals!Fences must be respected!
  • If there is a gate, use it, then close it well and cross the pasture quickly!
  • Treat the people working here, nature and the animals with respect!

A few tips for correct and fair behavior in the forest: (Source: www.bundesforste.at  - 6/2021)

  • Hikers should avoid visits to the forest about 1.5 hours before sunrise and after sunset, as wildlife is especially active during this time.
  • Plastic bottles, handkerchiefs, cigarette butts & Co have no place in the forest! Please make sure that you do not leave any trash in the forest.
  • Camping and making fire - is strictly forbidden in the forest!
  • In principle, each person is allowed to collect 2 kg of mushrooms and berries per day for personal use in the forest. It is only forbidden if the forest owner expressly forbids it.
